Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Tom Cullity Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec 2019 cuvée from Vasse Felix
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a beautiful garnet colour.
Nose
Aromas of blackcurrant mingle with touches of rosemary and fresh basil. Floral notes of lavender and lily bring a delicate elegance, while a subtle scent of dried pepper leaf harmoniously blends with the gourmet accents of cocoa and musk.
Palate
The concentrated and elegant body asserts itself with finesse on the palate, framed by a delicate and powdery tannic structure. Harmonious, the finish gives way to notes of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and oak.
The elegance and richness of an exceptional Australian wine
The estate
Founded in 1967 by Dr. Thomas Cullity, the pioneering Margaret River estate, Vasse Felix, was taken over in 1987 by the Holmes family who developed the vineyard to cover 133 hectares. With a meticulous selection of each plot for an authentic expression of the terroir, and under the direction of renowned winemaker Virginia Willcox, the estate produces wines appreciated for their finesse, richness and great ageing potential.
The vineyard
Margaret River benefits from Mediterranean and oceanic climatic influences, being located on a peninsula surrounded by the ocean. The Vasse Felix vineyard extends over different sectors, offering a diversity of micro-climates and exposures. The historical heart, with the oldest vines, is in Wilyabrup, while the main plots are located to the north in Carbunup and to the south in Karridale.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation, carried out entirely with whole berries and indigenous yeasts, takes place in equal parts between static and open vats, with maceration extending from 11 to 33 days. Ageing, on the other hand, takes place over 17 months in French oak barrels, 66% of which are new and 34% are 2 to 4 years old.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (78%)
Malbec (22%)
