Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the 2015 Castellero from Brezza
Serving
This Barolo, born from a great vintage, develops all its aromatic complexity after several years of aging. It is recommended to wait at least six years before opening. Served between 16 and 18 °C, it is tasted differently depending on its age: directly in a large glass if it is young, after a few hours of rest if it is over 15 years old, or decanted by candlelight for wines over 20 years old in order to preserve their purity.
A great wine from Piedmont combining structure and elegance
The property
A historical reference of the Barolo appellation, the Azienda Agricola Brezza Giacomo e Figli has been cultivating vines since 1885. The first vintage of the estate dates back to 1910. Today managed by the fourth generation of the Brezza family, the property is located just 500 meters from the center of the village of Barolo, in the province of Coni, in the north of Piedmont. It produces Italian wines of character, combining finesse, tradition, and identity.
The vineyard
This Piedmont estate extends over 31 hectares, including 20 hectares of vineyards classified in DOCG or DOC. These plots are located on some of the most beautiful terroirs of the appellation, spread between Monforte, Novello, and Alba. Brezza notably owns a plot on the historic Cannubi cru, recognized since 1752, making it the oldest official cru in Italy. The vineyard is certified organic, in a process respectful of natural balances.
The wine
The Barolo Castellero comes from a micro-plot of 0.6920 hectare, planted on predominantly loamy-sandy soils. This terroir gives the wine a beautiful structure, freshness, and a delicate expression of nebbiolo.
