Description

The creaminess and richness of a Second Cru Classé from Margaux

The property

This vineyard, named "Hostein" in the 18th century, was already one of the most beautiful labels in the Médoc at that time. At the helm of the Château Brane-Cantenac since 1992, Henri Lurton passionately perpetuates the viticultural adventure begun by his ancestors, combining tradition with the modernity of infrastructures aimed at magnifying the identity of the wines from this exceptional terroir of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard

The Château de Brane-Cantenac is a Margaux wine from a vineyard whose location within the Brane plateau terroir contributes to the elegant and aromatic signature of the property's wines. The Grand Vin is made from plots of old vines located on the 4th terrace with the most clayey gravels, within a historic terroir covering an area of about 45 hectares.

Vinification and aging

Vinification in wooden vats before aging for 18 months in barrels (70% of which are new).

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (70%), merlot (27%), cabernet franc (2%), carménère (1%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Château Brane-Cantenac 2016

Tasting

Color
Intense and deep purple color.

Nose
Great aromatic complexity combining black fruits, toasted and vanilla notes, enhanced by floral and fresh touches.

Palate
A soft and round attack precedes a palate with a fine and silky tannic structure. Long and expressive finish, offering a return of aromas of great intensity. A dense, fleshy wine of remarkable depth, combining power and elegance. An exceptional vintage, among the greatest of the last two decades.

Service and aging

A decanting of 1h30 to 2h is recommended before serving at 18°C. This wine can be cellared until around 2056.

Food and wine pairings

A beef steak accompanied by a truffled mashed potatoes is a refined pairing with this cuvée.
