Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Old Vines Pinot Noir 2023 cuvée from Matias Riccitelli

Tasting

Nose
The 2023 vintage offers a lively bouquet, mixing fresh strawberries, flowers, orange zest, and mineral notes of crushed stone and chalk.

Palate
On the palate, it is rich and structured, with crunchy tannins and a texture that is both firm and delicate. Its exceptional freshness brings a clear depth. Vinified with 25% whole bunches and without new wood, this wine can be enjoyed now or kept for a few years.

A structured and aromatic red wine from Patagonia

The property

Son of the famous Argentine winemaker Jorge Riccitelli, Matias Riccitelli founded the eponymous estate in 2009. Located in the province of Mendoza, this estate oversees a 20-hectare vineyard spread over three unique terroirs at the foot of the Andes.

Matias Riccitelli passionately produces Argentine wines whose refinement and aromatic richness are recognized beyond borders.

The vineyard

This cuvée is a wine from Patagonia made from ungrafted old vines, located in the Allen wine-growing area, in the province of Rio Negro. Averaging over sixty years old, the vines are planted at an altitude ranging from 435 to 500 meters on a limestone soil composed mainly of alluvium and silt.

Vinification and aging

This wine is carefully made from hand-picked grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts, preserving the essence of the terroir. 25% of the harvest remains whole. After a five-day pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation continues in wooden vats at 24-26 °C. The wine is then aged for 8 months in French oak barrels, and is bottled unfiltered and unrefined to preserve its purity and integrity.
