Characteristics and tasting advice for Agincourt Cabernet Malbec 2017 from Yarra Yering

Tasting

This wine captivates with its aromas of wild blackberries, currants and berries. On the palate, the vibrant notes of blackberry and blueberry are enhanced by a beautiful freshness.

A great Australian wine from an exceptional terroir

The estate

Founded in 1969, Yarra Yering is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in the Yarra Valley, in the state of Victoria. Voted "Winery of the Year 2024" by The Real Review, a reference in Australian wine criticism, this estate is an unmissable icon. Under the direction of Sarah Crowe, voted several times as Australia's best winemaker, and Andrew George, recognised as the country's best vineyard manager, Yarra Yering offers cuvées acclaimed by enthusiasts worldwide.

The vineyard

The Yarra Valley vineyard, located in the state of Victoria in Australia, is one of the country's most prestigious wine regions. Known for its cool climate, this region mainly produces elegant wines.

The cuvée

The grapes come from the Agincourt plot, where cabernet sauvignon was planted in 1995 and malbec in 1990. Located at the eastern end of the vineyard, this plot benefits from natural protection.

Vinification and ageing

Hand-harvested, the grapes are carefully destemmed and crushed in small half-tonne open vats. Manual punching down is carried out twice a day, followed by a long maceration. The wine is then gently pressed using a traditional press, before starting its malolactic fermentation in 2-year-old Bordeaux oak barrels, where it is aged for 12 months.
