Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Yarra Yering's Dry Red N°2 2016

Tasting

Nose
On the nose, the wine reveals a seductive palette of red and black fruits.

Palate
The palate is full and silky thanks to the marsanne, which brings a beautiful roundness. The mataro expresses itself with elegance, offering floral and spicy touches. The fruity flavours evolve with complexity, giving way to nuances of graphite and white pepper, accompanied by a delicate herbal note and a meaty depth.

A great Australian wine from an exceptional terroir

The property

Founded in 1969, Yarra Yering is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in the Yarra Valley, in the state of Victoria. Voted "Winery of the Year 2024" by The Real Review, a reference in Australian wine criticism, this estate is an unmissable icon. Under the direction of Sarah Crowe, voted Australia's best winemaker several times, and Andrew George, recognised as the country's best vineyard manager, Yarra Yering offers cuvées acclaimed by enthusiasts worldwide.

The vineyard

The Yarra Valley vineyard, located in the state of Victoria in Australia, is one of the country's most prestigious wine regions. Known for its cool climate, this region mainly produces elegant wines.

The cuvée

The first plantings in 1969 included syrah and marsanne, enriched by new syrah plots added in the 1990s. The mataro and viognier vines, on the other hand, were established between 1984 and 1995.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes were hand-picked, carefully sorted by bunch, then destemmed before being placed in vats. To preserve the aromas, a maximum of whole berries was kept. The wine was then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with 30% new wood, before the final blending and bottling.
